The Antico Borgo Torre della Montina

A fortified settlement from the 13th-14th century.

"...the great tower, free of windows and vaulted arches with a pointed arch, standing almost as the mistress of the site, rises in the center to a height of over sixty "Modenese arms" and is the most noble remnant of that castle..."

The Borgo della Montina, of which the ancient Tower is a part, is an important historical testimony saved from abandonment, thanks to an ambitious scientific and conservation restoration project. Today, the Borgo della Montina has regained its ancient splendor and represents the exclusive heart of the Maranello Resort.

The first historical traces of the Borgo can be found in a document dated 996, where the "Tower of Pietrobono della Montina" is mentioned.

The locality of Torre Maina developed around the Amaglini family, who resided in the Torre della Montina.
A keen eye will not miss the elements that recall its past as a fortified building, originally constructed as a granary and for defense.
Thick stone walls, which characterize the tower, and part of the original battlements are still visible.

Tradition tells that this tower also hosted Saint Bernardino of Siena during his mission in this territory. Centuries pass, and the need for defense diminishes, so the time comes for the Borgo to surrender to the passage of time. The buildings, once used to protect the inhabitants of the "strong castle," later housed families and the workshops of ancient trades necessary for sustaining life in the old village in a land with a thriving agricultural vocation.

In the late 19th century, additional buildings with the characteristic features of Modenese Apennine rural architecture were built next to the tower. The house, the stable with its hayloft, and the tool shed merge with the Borgo, making it one of the most charming villages in the rolling hills of the Tiepido Valley.

Since 2023, the Borgo has undergone careful conservation restoration, carried out with full respect for the original architecture. Thus, a new chapter begins for the ancient Tower, which has stood at the foot of the hills for over a thousand years, guarding the past of all the inhabitants of Maranello.

The Borgo and the Passion for Engines

History and passion for motorsport have long been intertwined with the Borgo della Montina. In 1937, Francesco Severi, known as Franì, a descendant of one of the noble families that once lived in the Borgo, triumphed in the legendary Targa Florio race.
A prestigious replica of the original Targa Florio won by Franì, graciously gifted by the Severi family descendants, is proudly displayed within the Borgo. This cherished relic, housed in the event hall, symbolizes the deep connection between the land of Torre Maina in Maranello and the world of motors.

Franì's extraordinary skills, and those of the Severi family in general, caught the attention of none other than Enzo Ferrari himself.
Untamed and daring, they faced danger to challenge speed, becoming skilled testers and co-drivers for the world’s most famous racing team.

The current family, owners of the Borgo della Montina, wanted to pay tribute to the history of the area with a strong motorsport tradition, through the stylistic choice of furnishings inspired by the era of great victories.

The design, inspired by late Art Deco from the 1930s, captures the elegance and atmosphere of an era that deeply marked Maranello, celebrating not only the achievements of Francesco Severi and his contemporaries, but also the connection between tradition, history, and the passion for motorsport.

This philosophy has turned every corner into a captivating journey through time, where the charm of the past meets the comfort of the present, offering a unique and unforgettable stay experience.
